While you're on your way
A few steps can make a real difference before you reach the office. Call us first, then follow the guidance below for your situation.
- Knocked-out tooth: handle by the crown, rinse gently, and place it back in the socket if possible. Otherwise store in milk and get to us within 30 minutes.
- Severe toothache: rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to remove trapped debris, and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed.
- Chipped or broken tooth: save any fragments in milk or saliva. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
- Lost filling or crown: keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side until we see you.
- Swelling or abscess: a facial swelling with fever is urgent. Call immediately, and if breathing or swallowing is affected go to the ER.
